Pesanggrahan LH Unit Develops Maggot Cultivation

Pesanggrahan Sub-district Environment (LH) Sub-agency Unit, South Jakarta cultivates maggots to reduce volume of organic waste disposed at Bantar Gebang Landfill (TPA).

In a day, maggots can reduce organic waste by 300-500 kilograms

Pesanggrahan Sub-district LH Sub-agency Unit Head, Hasan Basarudin conveyed maggot cultivation has been carried out since July 2020 on an area of 300 meters on Jalan Bintaro Puspita Raya, RT 09/02, LH Agency Dormitory.

"We put maggots in four containers with size 5x7 meters each," he mentioned, Saturday (4/10).

According to him, maggot cultivation can reduce volume of organic waste from household waste up to 90 percent. Organic waste such as leaves, fruit skins, grass, vegetables, twigs, and others can be processed into plant fertilizer

"In a day, maggots can reduce organic waste by 300-500 kilograms. We will develop maggot cultivation in every RWs," he asserted.
